SSAT

The Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) is a multiple-choice aptitude test for students in grades 5-11. The test consists of verbal, quantitative (math), and reading comprehension sections.

There are currently two levels of the test.  The Lower Level is for students in grades 5-7, while the Upper Level is for students in grades 8-11.

Structure and Format

Writing Sample
Length: 25-minute essay
Content: Organization and clear expression of ideas
Questions: Persuasive essay not scored by SSAT

Quantitative (Math)
Length: 60 minutes total; two 30-minute sections
Content: Math similar to what the student has learned in school
Questions: 50 multiple choice

Verbal
Length: One 30-minute section
Content: 30 synonym questions and 30 analogies
Questions: 60 multiple choice

Reading Comprehension
Length: One 40-minute section
Content: Reading comprehension based on 7 reading passages
Questions: 40 multiple choice
