While an undergraduate at Yale University, Charlie provided personalized, in-home tutoring services to students in the New Haven area. Seeing a need for one-on-one, in-home tutoring and test preparation, he launched Summit Educational Group in Wellesley, MA in 1988. More than twenty years later, through its three divisions, Summit has grown to be the leading provider of SAT preparation services in Massachusetts. Through its Tutoring, School Partnership, and Books divisions, Summit provides services to over 5,000 students per year.

Charlie has written a number of highly regarded test preparation books, which are used by tutoring companies and schools around the country.  He is an expert in the field of tutoring and test preparation. He is a frequent speaker and panelist at education conferences and forums around the country.

Steve Elefson

Steve graduated summa cum laude from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst’s Departmental Honors program in which he studied psychology and education and completed a senior thesis on mentor-protégé relationships.  His passion for tutoring ignited when he accepted a position tutoring his fellow college students in math, writing, psychology, statistics, and other subjects at the school’s Learning Support Services group.  After a year volunteering in Israel, Steve returned to the Boston area and worked initially as a job coach, providing vocational services for adults with developmental disabilities.  He joined Summit as a test prep tutor in 2000 and accepted a full-time position in 2002. 

Steve now manages operations and business development for Summit’s One-on-One, In-Home Tutoring division while continuing to tutor Summit’s students in the evenings and on weekends.  He has tutored thousands of hours over his career and has overseen the successful delivery of Summit’s test prep and tutoring services for thousands of families.  Steve is considered a standardized testing guru and is also the keeper of institutional knowledge at Summit.  In his not-so-abundant spare time Steve enjoys reading, playing frisbee, watching Boston sports and most importantly spending time with his wife, Sivan, and his two cats.

Michael Dean

Michael graduated from Emerson College with a degree in Film Production and Creative Writing.  His varied educational background includes tutoring stints at the college and graduate level, as well as teaching at The Children’s Museum of Boston and The Boston Science Museum.  He loves English and Writing, and in addition to his full-time work at Summit he teaches and tutors the Verbal sections of the SAT, ACT, and SSAT and continues to pursue creative film and writing projects in his spare time.  The thing Michael values most about his job at Summit is his ability to work with partner schools to offer truly customized test preparation classes aimed at meeting student needs.
